April 16, 2007

BURKINSHAW, Kenneth Edward

Former Hope resident Kenneth Burkinshaw went to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 16, his 84th birthday.

Dearly missed by Elaine, devoted wife of 56 years, sister Muriel (John) Stewart and brother Bryan (Sylvia) Burkinshaw; Children Jim (Joyce); Bob (Sheila Riddle), Dave (Wendy), Joy (Clyde) Dougans, and Ruth (Mike) Stobbe; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren (with 2 more due soon!)

Born in Berry Creek, Alberta, in 1923, Ken moved to BC in 1930 and lived in Victoria, Dawson Creek, West Vancouver, Abbotsford and Hope. Raised on a dairy farm, he enjoyed successful careers in both sales and education. He was a natural salesman and born storyteller. His steady Christian faith was expressed in practical love and compassion for people.

He taught at Hope Secondary School from 1971 until his retirement in 1983. During that time he was very active in Grace Baptist Church and was also instrumental in the formation of the active ISCF club at the high school.

In retirement Ken and Elaine lived in Abbotsford and he enjoyed spending time reading with the grandchildren, hot tubbing and traveling in their RV all over the backroads of BC.

Memorial service to be held Friday, April 20, 2 PM at Abbotsford Baptist Church, 33651 Busby St., Abbotsford. For those wishing to donate, a memorial scholarship has been established in Ken's name at Trinity Western University, Langley, BC (V2Y 1Y1)
