January 13, 1948 - July 8, 2018
After a brief illness, Larry Derick passed away in his bed, in his home, in Hedley, BC, 8 July 2018.

He was born in Edson, AB, the second of three boys to parents Lawrence and Annie Vera Derick. His family moved to Hope, BC, when he was age 2, where he then grew up and graduated from Hope Secondary School in 1966. He was trained and employed in a variety of occupations throughout his lifetime, including heavy duty mechanics, mining with the Giant Mascot in Hope, a longshoreman in Gold River, BC, a "crane chaser" in Australia, sales associate with Century 21 in Hope and later an independent property seller and manager. He also travelled extensively around the world, in his youth, to such diverse locations as Central America, Indonesia, Nepal, New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines, to name only a few.

Larry was an avid member of the NDP and assisted candidates with their provincial and federal campaigns throughout his lifetime. He was also a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hope, BC, with 35 years of service, in addition to membership with the Royal Canadian Legion of Hope.

For most of the past 25 years, Larry has been a resident of the village of Hedley, BC, except for a few years of residency in Hope during that time. He lived his life on his own terms and remained staunchly independent residing in his own home to his last, despite the many challenges of living most of his life in a wheelchair. He was a friend to many in both Hope and Hedley and elsewhere throughout the province and country, in addition to maintaining close ties especially with his brother's children.

It is with much sorrow, he leaves behind brother Allan Derick, Hope, BC, brother Dean Derick and Kathy Paul, Hope, BC, nephews James Derick, Harrison Hot Springs, BC, Jackson Derick, Hope, BC, Jesse Paul, Hope, BC, nieces, Karen Martin, Agassiz, BC, Maegan Derick, Edmonton, AB, great-nephews, Aidan Sullivan, Mathew Alexander Derick Martin, great-niece, Chloe Harris, sister-in-law, Jody Robberstad, and feline friend, Sasha Kitty.
