Percy passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on October 11th just nineteen days shy of his 80th birthday. Percy was predeceased by his wife Katie, his son Howard Barnes and daughter Louise Erzbach. He is survived by his loving family, sons Brian Barnes of Calgary, Alta and Percy Barnes Jr. of Hope B.C. as well as Katie’s children Philip [Colleen] Gagne, Gibsons B.C. and Christine[Gordon] Brooks, Wells B.C., brothers Malcolm[Marlene] Barnes of Burnaby B.C. and Edgar Barnes of Victoria B.C. Grandchildren being Michael Erzbach, Shane,Jessie,Emily,Jordan Barnes and Paige Gagne as well as many great grand children.

Born in Chilliwack, Percy worked as a young man in numerous lumber mills and as a logger in B.C. before moving onto the oil derricks in Alta. Upon returning to B.C. to raise his family in Hope, Percy took employment with the highways dept both out of Hope and Allison Pass but his true calling was bicycle repair ,which he did out of his residence for many years. Once nearing retirement Percy and Katie relocated their long time residence to 3rd Ave, opening “ Percy’s Bike Repair” with the motto, “ You break, we fix.” With haste your bicycle always got repaired properly and was often done free of charge, as this was his way of giving back to the community. As

a resident for over 40 years, Percy was a member of the Hope Ratepayers Assoc., as well as the Hope Rod and Gun Club. A warm, caring and honest man with a big smile, firm handshake and a twinkle in his eye. When asked how he would like to be remembered Percy stated “as an honest man, with integrity and for always treating others the way he would have liked to have been treated”. Simple but true words to live by. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall Br. 228, 344 Fort St., Hope B.C. on Nov 5th, 2010 at 1 pm with Reverend Ken Wotherspoon presiding. The family would like to extend aspecial thank you to the nurses, doctors and kitchen staff at both the Fraser Hope Lodge and the Fraser Canyon Hospital for all their support and efforts. A thank you also goes out to our friends and

family during this trying time. Those wishing to honor the memory of Percy may donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC or the BC Cancer Foundation. If you would like to email your condolences to the family you can send them to: condolences@mountainsidefuneralhome.com
