August 31, 1932 - March 16, 2021
Our dad, Pietro Raimondo Zervini, 88, passed away on March 16, 2021 in Hope, BC. Pietro, "Peter", was born on August 31, 1932 to Fredrico and Carlota Zervini in Sesto Al Reghena Pordenone, Italy.
Dad immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1954, after serving in the Italian military seeking a better life in Canada, to find out that life was not all milk and honey.
He worked hard all his life starting with delivering coal in Winnipeg, cutting wood in Northern Ontario and working on the CPR and mining in Thompson. It was in Winnipeg that he met his beautiful wife, Helena Traa. They married in 1959, resided in Thompson for ten years before making the big move, with five kids in tow, to Hope, BC in 1970.
In 1970 Dad began a long career in BC working in the mines before moving into heavy construction. Dad was the type of person who could not sit still. Instead of retiring he went to work at R & R Recycling where he finally retired at the age of 75.
Dad instilled strong work ethics and taught us that anything was possible if you worked hard. Dad spent his retirement years surrounded by his large family and friends.
His favourite past times were watching soccer, the news, Keno and preparing a big pot of spaghetti sauce with his secret ingredient and of course, the odd glass of wine.
Dad is survived by his wife, Helena; sons, Raymond (Brenda), Richard (Debbie), daughters Linda (Tony), Soraya (Doug) and Lisa (Russ); also by his grandchildren, Nicole, Courtney, Tiffany, Whittney, Jerrod, Mark, Amber, Arlen, Elisha, Gregory and Allison; twelve great grandchildren; his sister Rita in Orderso, Italy and nieces and nephews throughout Europe and Canada.
A graveside service will be held April 10, at 1 pm at Mountain View Cemetery. Celebration of Life to be announced.
