June 24, 1956 - January 26, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Johnson on January 26, 2023 at the age of 66. Rick closed his eyes and took his last breath surrounded by loved ones. Rick had retired two years previous diagnosed with COPD.
Born in New Westminster, BC on June 24, 1956, Rick spent most of his life in the Hope, BC area, but did travel and live in Whitehorse during his youth.
He loved sports and was a perfectionist in all that he accomplished. At a young age Rick decided that he was going to be just like his idol, Bruce Lee and took up Martial Arts emulating his style and gained his Black Belt.
Like every Canadian boy, Rick loved hockey and wanted to be the best, knowing hard work lay ahead. Just a young kid, he would wait for his ride to Chilliwack ice rink at 5:00 am on practice days. Rick took ballet and figure skating to ensure agility and speed on the ice. He became a tough competitor and ruled his net winning many trophies.
Rick enjoyed golf and the warm sunny days and succeeded at this sport also, which is polar opposite to hockey.
Rick touched many lives and hearts with his giving and generous nature. He leaves behind a legion of friends, family, colleagues and his partner of 27 years.
Rick had a special touch with birds and all animals and they quieted within his gentle hands.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please donate to your local SPCA, Animal Rescue, Junior Golf or Junior Hockey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Rick's birthday, June 24th. Details to follow.
