January 20, 2021
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Bob peacefully left us leaving quietly from his home. He leaves behind his best friend and wife, Betty (McElman), of 60 years and their 7 children and families - 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren spanning Canada from coast to coast.
His daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Gary Hayes, have the unique privilege of living in Hope. Their daughters, Lizz and Jess, reside in Ontario and Quebec respectively. Bob and Betty visited and have fond memories of their time in Hope and neighboring communities.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Annie Thornton; in-laws, Morley and Eleanor McElman; sisters, Joan and Joyce; son-in-law, Dave Lawrence; and their infant son, Ross.
Bob was a Mr. Fixit and loved tinkering. He loved cars, nature, small animals-especially Shih Tzu's and cats, and gardening. Travelling was a great joy to him and he and Betty explored many countries including Canada.
His greatest love was his family. He was a kind gentle husband, father, and grandfather who was very proud of his family. We will miss his snippets of wisdom, sense of humour and teasing. He was a good man.
