ROY BERTRAND MASON

Oct. 26, 1924 - Feb. 17, 2009

Roy died suddenly on Tues. Feb. 17, 2009 doing what he loved best, mountain climbing. Born in Vancouver to Ray and Ruth Mason, the family moved to Kawkawa Lake in 1936 where his love affair with the mountains began. He earned his engineering degree at UBC in 1949 following 2 years of service in the RCAF. He then began a 25 year career with BC Tel where he acted as Director of Rates and Tariffs. A long time member and former president of the BC Mountaineering Club, he was also a founding member of BC Mountain Rescue Group. A bush pilot with over 2000 hours logged among the mountain peaks of BC, he was also an author whose adventures are chronicled in his book "Ice Runway."

Roy will be lovingly remembered by Dorothy, sons, Scott and Glenn, daughter Melanie, grandchildren Chris, Bryan and Robby, sisters Margaret and Jeanne, devoted companion Diane and many other friends and family members.

No service by request. A celebration of his life will be held at The Arbutus Club - Quilchena Terrace, 2001 Nanton Ave., Vancouver, Sunday, March 1 from 1- 4 pm.
