October 26, 1937 - April 7, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Wai Har "Lucille" Toy (nee Chung) on April 7, 2025, in Vancouver, B.C., with her family around her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James (2021), and is survived by her three children Galen (Penny), Malaine, and Junine (Darren).

Lucille was born on October 26, 1937, in Guangdong Province, China, the eldest of six siblings. She lived her early adult years in Hong Kong where she trained and worked as a nurse, before immigrating to Canada to marry the love of her life, "James" Wo Chang Toy. They built a home and life in beautiful Hope, B.C., where they lovingly raised their family and lived together for 54 years.

Lucille was a tireless caregiver, selflessly devoted to providing for her family. In her leisure time, she found great enjoyment in cooking, growing her vegetable garden and fruit trees, playing golf, and travel.

Faced with a number of health challenges in her later years, Lucille showed us the meaning of strength and resilience. With quiet, unwavering determination, she worked to regain her strength and abilities, adapting bravely to her changing circumstances.

Lucille will forever be in our hearts, and the example she set has and will continue to guide us and strengthen us. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation was held privately for family members on April 14, 2025, at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel in Vancouver, B.C., followed by interment on April 15, 2025, at Mountainview Cemetery in Hope, B.C.

The Toy family would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. Joshua Greggain, Dr. Richard Darby, Dr. Guy Fradet, Dr. Thalia Field, the rehab team at the VGH Acute Spine Unit, and the licensed care staff at Opal by Element for their tremendous care and support.
