Agassiz artists Alexa Chykowski (left) and Avalon Butchart will exhibit at the Hope Arts Gallery in April.

Hope Arts Gallery will present two artists from Agassiz for their April show titled For the Love of Horses.

Alexa Chykowski paints landscapes, animals and sometimes flowers with oil on canvas. She is a long time student of master painter Dawn Karr. Originally from Saskatchewan, she and her family have lived and worked in the Lower Mainland since 1966. She began painting at the age of 50 and was a member of the Cultus Lake Golden Palette Club for 18 years. She is inspired by the beauty of British Columbia and uses photographs as a source of imagery, forging her own brand of realism. She enjoys painting well-known spots and things in the quiet of the north country found near their place out of Prince George.

Avalon Butchart paints only in acrylics. She does mainly horses, some dogs and lately has begun a wildlife series. The Wild on Wood series brings art and reclaimed wood to life. Eleven art courses in high school provided her with a solid foundation of techniques and an understanding of art. Since then, she has learned by watching top artists in her field and is always working to improve her skills. Her style is capturing the true nature of her portraits which demonstrate the love put into each piece. Butchart’s mother’s family had many international artists and she is proud to continue the legacy. She and her family, pets and horse live in Agassiz. The show’s title is partly based on her life with horses.

She is a full time artist, in business the last 5 years. She has a booth in the annual Mane Event in the Chilliwack Trade Show. This year she will be in the Red Deer Mane Event, Harrison Art Shows and the Art! In Vancouver show in May.

Her Facebook page is Avalon Creative Art; web site is www.avaloncreativeart.com.
