Chilliwack FC’s annual general meeting (AGM) is coming up, taking place virtually on Zoom at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22.

The youth soccer organization will have several key board positions up for election, including the top job of chairperson. CFC has two people running for the job, which carries a three-year term.

Longtime chairperson Andrea Laycock is running again, but she has competition from Sherri Josephson. Both women have been involved in youth sports for decades, and Laycock has been involved with CFC specifically for 33 years despite never having any children of her own in the association. In her candidate bio, which is posted on the CFC web page, Laycock references her experience.

“I am committed and loyal to being an active member of our community,” she wrote. “I am a believer of giving back wherever possible to help make our community better. I believe my 33 years with Chilliwack FC demonstrate that. I have the time, the energy, and the experience to put into making Chilliwack FC a more inclusive and progressive club.”

According to her bio, Josephson counts 30 years in senior leadership with the YMCA, including 10 years as general manager of the Chilliwack YMCA. Now semi-retired, the Sardis product said her background in child development and social sciences would serve her well as Chilliwack FC chairperson.

“I am committed to inclusive and transparent governance and look forward to the opportunity to ensure that Chilliwack FC is open and accessible to all voices,” Josephson wrote. “And that we offer an experience that is developmentally appropriate, fun, and physically, emotionally and culturally safe.”

Laycock and Josephson are also candidates for secretary along with Tracy Krys.

The role of development coordinator, which also carries a three-year term, will go to one of Gabe D’Archangelo or Kevin Raffle.
