Hope Hustle competitor Terry Bremner is the King of the Hill in Saturday’s Hope Hustle while the Queen of the Hill award goes to Hope Secondary School Grade 10 student Hannah Chisholm.

As a result of this win, Bremner is now the King of the Hill for the fifth time, finishing the course that starts from the Mount Hope trail parking lot to the Hope Lookout in 24 minutes and 26 seconds. He also came in first at last year’s Hustle.

“And this year he went off to do the Brigade Trail Race after doing the hustle! He’s an amazing man,” said co-organizer Lenora Poulin.

Chisholm, who finished the course in 32 minutes last year, shaved off about five minutes this year to end up as the first female competitor to reach the Lookout, with a time of 26:27. She was fourth among all competitors and performed at a “truly impressive” level, according to Poulin.

“The event went really well again this year. Our numbers were a bit down but we lost a few runners to the Brigade Trail Race that took place the same day,” said Poulin. “We had more Hope Secondary Leadership students volunteer this year, which was awesome. The times were significantly faster than previous years. Seven runners finished in under 30 minutes, and everyone finished in 50 minutes which is outstanding.”

Asked whether the rainy and cool weather affected the event, Poulin said it did not.

“It was actually still very dry under the trees on the trail. It was the perfect temperature for running/hiking,” she said.

Poulin was helped by co-organizer Heather Link. Volunteers Emma Link, Verena Brysch, Julius Brysch, Darby Link, Abigail Wright and Abbie Striker helped with registration, timing and cheering on the runners.

Poulin said she will continue organizing the Hustle next year.

“I think if more people in our community did even a small thing to help, Brigade Days will continue to grow,” she said. “It was an outstanding weekend!”
