The first-ever Brigade Trail Race happened on Saturday morning on the Hudson’s Bay Company Heritage Trail that goes from Tulameen to Hope.

Sixty-two runners chose between running the Jacobson Brigade and Tulameen Brigade run, at 19 and 50 miles respectively, or 30 and 80 kilometres.

Hope running enthusiasts Miles and Megan Bissky ran the Jacobson Brigade. Megan finished in 4:46:25 while Miles finished in 4:51:55.

“It was a lot of fun, bliss and torture at the same time,” said Miles. “We were running with a field of really serious competitors — the winner of it is a former world champion ultra marathon trail runner.”

Indeed, Eleanor Greenwood put the competition miles behind. She finished about one hour and 20 minutes faster than the Bisskys, finishing in 3:21:31.

The fastest runner for the Tulameen Brigade was Mike Sidic, of Vancouver, who ran it in 9:12:20. The fastest female was Corinne Legault, of Prince George. She ran it in 12:50:05.

The race was organized by Heather MacDonald of Mountain Madness with assistance from Kelley Cook and Vic Sagorski all from Eastgate.
