It’s been a good week for Chilliwack Chiefs netting NCAA commitments.

Hours after Connor Milburn commited to Lake Superior State Thursday, a second Chiefs was snapped up by a Div 1 school. Rookie forward Ray Fust is now destined to play for the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks, an eight-team conference that also includes North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth, Denver, Western Michigan, St. Cloud State, Miami (Ohio) and Colorado College.

“I just fell in love with the city, the school, the rink, and most importantly the coaches.” Fust said about his decision. “Omaha is a top organization that is giving me a great opportunity to develop on and off the ice. It gave me a feeling of home right away that just made me realize it was the right decision.”

The 2002-born forward is settling into life in the BCHL right now. Six games into his junior A career, he’s produced one goal and one assist.

“Ray is a player with great intangibles and a fantastic attitude towards the game.” said Chiefs head coach and general manager Brian Maloney. “His habits are very strong, and he approaches each day like a pro. We are all very happy for him and look forward to continuing the development of his game.”

Nineteen Chilliwack players listed on the team’s roster page at bchl.ca are listed as committed to NCAA programs.

The exceptions are veteran forward Massimo Rizzo, who backed off a commitment to North Dakota, and a handful of younger players born in 2002 and 2003.
