The Chilliwack Chiefs have their backs against the wall in their second round playoff series against the Nanaimo Clippers.
The BCHL club is down 0-2 after a pair of home ice losses, and hits the road for games three and four.
The best-of-seven series opened Friday (April 15) at the Chilliwack Coliseum in a game in which the Chiefs were thwarted by Clippers keeper Cooper Black. Though Chilliwack out-shot Nanaimo, they fell 2-1.
All the scoring in this one came in the third period. The visitors broke the ice 61 seconds into the final frame with an even-strength goal by Brody Waters, and Sean Donaldson doubled the lead at 4:10.
Chilliwack’s Chad Muller got the Chiefs on the board at 6:43, but despite sending 13 pucks at Black over the final 20 minutes, they only beat him once.
The story was similar in game two as Chilliwack out-shot the Clippers 38-23 and lost 6-3.
Donaldson had three for Nanaimo with Waters, Jake Hewitt and Jeremie Payant also lighting the lamp. The Chiefs got two goals from Cameron Johnson and a single from AJ Lacroix.
Grant Riley took the loss in both games in the Chilliwack net.
The series resumes tonight (Monday, April 18) with game four tomorrow (Tuesday, April 19). Both games start at 7 p.m. at Nanaimo’s Frank Crane Arena. If the Chiefs are able to extend the series, they’d host game five Thursday (April 21) at the Chilliwack Coliseum with a 7 p.m. puck drop.
