Chilliwack Jets flying high after stopping Richmond Sockeyes

The Pacific Coast Junior B Hockey club outgunned Richmond in a high-scoring matchup

The Chilliwack Jets are number one scoring team in the Pacific Coast Junior B Hockey League so far, averaging 5.2 goals per game. The Richmond Sockeyes are no slouches either, putting 4.57 pucks in the net each time they play.

So when those two teams got together Sunday night at the Sardis Sports Complex, you had to figure the goaltenders were in for a rough night.

Sure enough, the Jets and Sockeyes combined for 11 in a game Chilliwack won 6-5.

The home team got two goals from Caleb Garet (Okotoks, Alberta), one goal and two assists from Brendan Williamson (Chilliwack) and two helpers from Reilley Kotai (Abbotsford), making life miserable for a pair of Richmond goalies.

Jovan Keleh got the start in goal for the Sockeyes. He was yanked 3:39 into period two after giving up four goals on 15 shots. Marcus Cumberworth was better in relief, giving up two on 18 shots.

Blake Clease (Chilliwack), Owen Hopcott (Chilliwack) and affiliate player Nolan Wall also scored for the Jets who got a 21 save performance from their keeper, Adam Winters (Surrey).

“We came out hard and got a big lead which I was happy with,” said Chilliwack coach Clayton Robinson. “We took some bad penalties and let them back in the game, but overall a big win for the team as Richmond is always a good squad.”

At 4-1-0 through five games, the Jets are second in the seven-team Harold Brittain Conference behind the unbeaten Langley Trappers (5-0-0).

Robinson’s team has a few days off now before their next game. It’s another at home as the Jets host the Aldergrove Kodiaks Sunday (Oct. 3) with a 5 p.m. start at the Sardis Sports Complex.
