While the BCHL is expected to send out an update of some sort in the next 24 hours, it’s crickets from the head office of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL).
The junior B circuit, which includes the Chilliwack Jets, hasn’t had any games played since Nov. 7 thanks to provincial health orders.
Those health orders got stricter recently, with the provincial government prohibiting adults from engaging in indoor sports activities. For the purposes of the order, adults includes ages 18-20, which means a majority of PJHL players aren’t allowed to set skates on the ice.
One of the PJHL’s rival leagues, the Kootenay International Junior B Hockey League (KIJHL), announced Dec. 4 that while teams can continue with on-ice activities that adhere to provincial health orders, all regular season games through Dec. 31 are cancelled.
The KIJHL said an announcement on the remainder of their season will be made once more info is available.
The PJHL meanwhile hasn’t posted an update on their website or Twitter feeds since early November. When contacted by The Progress Monday morning, league commissioner Trevor Alto responded with an eight-word answer, “We have no further update at this time.”
Chilliwack Jets owner/general manager/head coach Clayton Robinson said he’s focused on following the provincial health orders.
“We sent our guys back home for Christmas, and we will pick things back up in the new year.”
