Paddles up at Harrison Lake

The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club is holding its 2011 Community Challenge on June 5 at Harrison Lake.

This is an opportunity to find out more about the challenging and rewarding sport, or simply get your employees, co-workers, friends and family together for a day on the lake.

The club provides everything paddlers will need, including paddles, life jackets, boats, coaching and a full day of races.

Each team requires 20 paddlers and a minimum of eight female paddlers. One person will beat the drum at the front of the boat, providing the rhythm for the paddlers. This is a team sport, and paddlers are encouraged to work as a team while challenging themselves.

There will be a full coaching session on race day, Sunday, June 5. The cost for each team is $500.

The club has several teams and always has room for more paddlers to join. They even have a youth team that practices and competes.

Contact Manfred Preuss for more information at 604-792-9252, or on the club’s website www.fraservalleydragonboatclub.com.
