Kent Elementary hosted the annual School District #78 track meet for Grades 4 to 7 last Thursday, with plenty of participation from Hope and Boston Bar schools. Silver Creek and Coquihalla each sent 48 athletes and Hope Secondary sent 20 Grade 7s.
Considering the Harrison, Kent, AESS — and Agassiz Christian and Seabird Island athletes, Kent principal Stan Watchorn was likely low on his estimated total of 200. Meet organizer Donna Gallamore was away on an overnight camp with students and couldn’t be contacted by press time.
What Watchorn didn’t undersell was the weather.
“It was a wonderful day, with the weather cooperating — sunny but not too hot,” he said, adding, “A big thanks to all the participating schools who helped out and ran all the events.”
Visiting teachers helped run the 100 and 400-metre races, the high jump, long jump, shot put and ball throw.
