A Hope business is in the running to be crowned the sweetest bakery in the land.

The Rolling Pin is currently one of the top 10 bakeries in a Canada-wide contest which ends July 31 at midnight. Hope residents have been getting into the competitive spirit, voting and sharing the Sweetest Bakery in Canada contest online in the hopes of increasing The Rolling Pin’s chances.

So far the tally of online votes places the Rolling Pin seventh nation-wide, however, once in-store votes are counted this could change. Six other bakeries, in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, are ahead of the local bakery as of July 26.

The contest website describes some of the specialties at The Rolling Pin, including pineapple crushes, smash cakes, puff pastries with real whipped cream and the crown jewel — apple fritters.

“Big hand cut fritters with chunks of apple, glazed to perfection,” the Dawn Foods website stated. “So popular are their apple fritters that they have pre-orders at least the day before.”

Fans of the bakery can vote online, as well as at the store on 821 6 Avenue.
