When making your way around Hope, take a moment and stop to see the flowers.
There are 12 Front Garden winners, who wowed judges with their efforts. Hope is one of 60 communities in Canada that participated in the 2021 Scotts Miracle-Gro Best Garden contest. The top winners have signs in their front yards to let the community know they won.
The judges selected gardens that can be seen from the street, and had not been recognized by Communities in Bloom in the past. The winning gardens didn’t have to be perfect. For example, they didn’t have to have lush, green lawns. But they did need to show that the owners had given them some TLC.
“It was such a hot summer,” Teresa Williams from Communities in Bloom said. “We thought, let’s get some new people. These are people who showed the love.”
The top five of the 12 winners were Rudy and Peni Puschman on Third Avenue, Bud and Wanda Prest on 7th Avenue, Pauline Newbigging on Fraser Avenue, Stan Kirkpatrick on Cariboo Avenue and Cheryl and Tom Davis on Silverhope Road. Each recipient received a congratulatory letter, and Miracle-Gro potting soil and fertilizer as well as a sign to post in their garden.
