Just as Sandy Maguire was heading to the backyard, on her Acacia Drive property in Hope on the morning of Feb. 24, ‘something’ made her look to her right. There was the bobcat, sitting on the fence, beside her back porch. The bobcat was not nervous, did not run away, did not hiss and spit. It just sat there, calmly.
Maguire had time to get her camera and took the opportunity to photograph the bobcat before it climbed into the neighbor’s evergreen tree and then disappeared.
This is possibly the same bobcat that has been seen recently in the Kawkawa Lake area and near the old Lakeway Market.

Bobcats are not dangerous to people, Maguire advised, but they are wild, so do not attempt to approach them. They are looking for pet cats, small dogs, raccoons and birds. Although Maguire felt privileged to see such a beautiful specimen in her yard and was able to take several photographs of it, she was also aware that this wild animal was on a hunting mission. She didn’t need to chase it away because it left on its own.
If you have cats or small dogs, please be aware that bobcats are very hungry at this time of year and would find your pet a tasty meal. When your pets are outside, please keep a careful eye on them.
