Memorial Park was filled with hundreds of people on Monday who came out in the heat to participate in Canada Day festivities.
The celebration kicked off at 11 a.m. with the national anthem and opening remarks from Mayor Susan Johnston, Chilliwack-Hope MLA Laurie Throness, and Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl. The mayor was joined by dignitaries and RCMP officers in red surge for the Canada Day cake cutting, which was handed out by members of the 1st Hope Scouting Group. There was also several Hope Mountain Market vendors, live music with Shades O' Grey and kids crafts.
The annual Canada Day Classic Car Show was a major draw for the event this year. About 140 entries lined the Memorial Park grass field, offering car enthusiasts a wide variety of vehicles to look at.
