A group of volunteers will be meeting this Saturday to clean up garbage from the flooding in November, and they’re hoping more people will join them.
The Coquihalla River Garbage Clean-Up will begin at the Hope Golf Course parking lot at 2 p.m.
The floods last November brought a lot of human-made debris down the Coquihalla River and deposited it near the confluence of the Fraser.
Kelly Pearce, one of the organizers of the clean up through Hope Mountain Centre, says that it’s urgent that as much as possible is cleaned up now, before the spring freshet moves it all downriver.
They are going to be spending about two hours along the Coquihalla River, and the more people who help out, the more they’ll get accomplished.
Hope Mountain Centre is bringing garbage bags and paying for the dump fees.
Anyone wanting to help is asked to bring their own work gloves, water and snacks, clothes for changing weather, and sturdy footwear. Those who are able to bring pickups, especially four wheel drives, are asked to. While they are meeting at the golf course parking lot, they will be convoying down the river together.
