Seabird Island is slated to receive about $2.1 million for a Cultural Education, Community Resource Centre and Longhouse. The project is described as “construction of a new cultural, educational, community resource centre and longhouse, including an arts room, kitchen, carving room, open carving shed, accessible washrooms, pow wow grounds and round room.”
The province and federal government are supporting a total of 21 infrastructure projects across the Lower Mainland.
The federal government is providing $44.5 million of the $63.7 million with $19.2 million coming from the province. Applicants contributed $22.3 million to the projects; Seabird Island raised $722,000 toward the community centre.
