Ring in a special, musical Harrison-style Christmas with the Cool Yule show at Harrison Memorial Hall on Dec. 15. Vancouver-based quartet Van Django and guests Keith Bennett and LJ Mounteney will fill the evening with spirited holiday ballads, both old and new. Submitted

Have a very Harrison Christmas

Celebrate the season with Cool Yule

CORRECTION: The previous version of this article stated that this was the 40th annual Cool Yule variety show. The Cool Yule show is supporting the Harrison Festival Society’s 40th Anniversary Festival in July, 2018.

Looking for a fun and festive way to celebrate the yuletide season? Harrison’s Cool Yule show is the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and support the Harrison Festival Society.

Ring in Christmas “Harrison-style” with a variety show performance produced by Vancouver-based swing quartet Van Django and guests. Enjoy a Christmas mix of oldies, jazz, pop tunes, classical and sing-alongs in a “swinging gypsy jazz style.”

The Harrison Festival Society says Van Django’s music is “well-rooted in the gypsy jazz of 1930s Paris and France” and is “pure flights of dazzling fancy, driving rhythms and boundless creativity.” Unique compositions, arrangements and “humorous mash-ups” showcase the group’s eclectic influences and one-of-a-kind musical style.

Regular Harrison festival-goers will recognize Keith Bennett from his 2016 performances with David Sinclair. Along with harmonica, Bennett takes on Christmas ballads with an excellent singing style. LJ Mounteney will perform too, bringing a “bluesy sensibility with her soulful voice” to the Hall.

The Cool Yule show is Friday, Dec. 15 at the Harrison Memorial Hall. The night begins at 7:30 p.m. and will include Christmas baking, raffle prizes and a 50/50 draw. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Harrison Festival Society’s 40th Anniversary Festival next July.

Tickets are $35.50 for adults and free for children under 12. They can be purchased online, by phone at (604) 796-3664 or in person at Ranger Station Art Gallery.
