Retrospective Eleven is presenting the best of works created last year, by participants from the Art Machine community arts program.
The exhibit is open now at the Hope Arts Gallery.
The Art Machine students are of all ages, with the majority of them being seniors and children. The instructors are inspiring, offering classes in acrylic and watercolour painting, paper crafts, altered art/mixed media, wheel thrown pottery, hand built pottery, paper collage and much more. Weekend workshops are also held throughout the year, bringing in outside artists to teach specialty classes.
Techniques improve, horizons broaden and imagination awakens. Studio A (Visual Arts) and Studio B (Pottery) are quiet places for the artists/students, where outside concerns are forgotten. Instructors offer guidance and instruction and fellow students give supportive critiques. Creativity, self esteem, encouragement and social connections grow and are shared among participants.

Shows like Retrospective Eleven are part of the learning process. Preparing a piece for show by framing, doing an inventory, pricing and/or producing to a deadline are all part of an artist’s life. There is celebration by all when a piece is sold. It’s art appreciation in its most time-honoured form.
The Hope & District Arts Council says they are proud of their newly renovated Art Machine facility next door to the Hope Arts Gallery. They have increased classes at the facility this past year by adding two more adult hand building pottery drop-ins, as well as one for children. This year, they hope to increase the visual art classes available in Studio A. Stop by and have a tour.
They are inviting the public to join them at the Hope Arts Gallery, 349 Fort St. for the exhibit opening/reception on Saturday, March 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments. The exhibit runs March 1- 28 and is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is operated by Hope and District Arts Council and run by volunteers.
