I have the enormous privilege of being a very proud grandpa to four awesome grand-girls - lots of hugs and cuddles. Sure missing those right now during these trying times. However, mother nature in her wisdom insists that the aging process is ‘onward and upward’ so three of them have moved onto university, work and - blast it - boys.

Fortunately, still have a 10-year-old who loves to come to Hope for grandparent visits, and I received a letter from her the other day. She gently lectured us about staying safe, and is hoping summertime will mean more visits.

Following this concern for us, then came another worry. “What about Mr. Popsicle Man, do you think he will be OK grandpa?” Now 99.9 per cent of children in and around Hope know Mr. Popsicle Man, a.k.a. Ted Soucie. Ted is an absolute fixture in the summer, riding his pedal-powered goody cart along with his gentle dog pal. Hope, Silver Creek, Kawkawa, Squeah - Ted services them all and then some. An absolute highlight for the young children at the annual Camp Skylark is to see Mr. Popsicle Man pedaling up the drive to give complementary ice treats to all. Ted, you are a man among men and I salute you.

Watch out for yourself during these very troubling times, my young one anxiously looks forward to her rainbow bars and there are many other children who benefit from your gentle greeting and efforts. So please stay safe and we look forward to another happy summer for all.
