The pipers are coming.
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is on its way to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Saturday, Feb. 29. The six-time world champion band will play songs of the highlands, clad in traditional Scottish bagpiper regalia in a celebration of culture, music and heritage.
The SFU Pipe Band first formed in 1966 and became the first band outside the United Kingdom to win the World Pipe Band Championships more than once and is the first pipe band to perform at Carnegie Hall. They have also performed at Highland games events across North America.
“The sight and sound of these inspirational performers combine to transport you to Scotland’s heather-coated mountains and rolling glens, creating an evocative atmosphere that captures the most iconic elements of this enchanting country,” said a statement from the Cultural Centre.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults, $37 and $35 for youth and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackcultralcentre.ca or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
