Emergency crews called to ‘high-velocity’ fiery crash on Highway 1 near Hope

Collision happened eastbound, at weigh scales where vehicle caught fire after hitting pole

Emergency crews have been called to a fiery crash on Highway 1 near Hope on Friday.

The call came in as a “high-velocity” crash in the eastbound lanes of the highway around 9:08 a.m., at the weigh scales west of Hope on Feb. 2.

A semi truck hit a pole and then the vehicle caught on fire. The pole was lying across the highway.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames when the Popkum Fire Department arrived on scene. Hope Fire Department was also called to the crash.

RCMP reported that the driver was out of the vehicle.

Initially, an Air Ambulance was dispatched and a landing zone was to be set up, but the helicopter was later cancelled by paramedics.
