Drivers planning to go through the Fraser Canyon at the end of the April might have to consider alternative travel routes.

Two full closures will be taking place on Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon. One closure will take place on April 23, 14 kilometres east of Lytton at Tank Hill, and the second closure will take place on April 29, at Falls Creek (Jackass Mountain).

The closures are being done to do repairs on the damage caused by the 2021 atmospheric river event.

From 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., the highway at Tank Hill will be closed to allow Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) to “realign the railway track crossing the highway.”

And from 7 a.m. until April 30 at 7 a.m., the highway at Jackass Mountain will be closed while a “new permanent bridge lifted and slid into place.”

“Arrangements have been made with emergency services to facilitate access through the sites during the closures,” said the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI). “Drivers travelling between the Interior and Lower Mainland can take Highway 3 or Highway 5 as alternative routes.”
