Boston Bar residents have the chance to have their say regarding the future of their firehall.

There is a referendum, being referred to as the Firehall Assent Voting Opportunity coming up on Nov. 20.

An Assent Voting Opportunity is a vote held to ask the community a question. Those who participate will simply give a yes or no answer.

The lease for the current location of the Boston Bar Firehall expires at the end of May 2022, and there is a desire to purchase property that will become the new home of the Boston Bar Firehall.

The Fraser Valley Regional District has an accepted offer to purchase the land and buildings at 47715 Alder Road to house the Boston Bar Firehall. The purchase price of this property is $325,000. The FVRD has monies in reserve to put towards this purchase but would still need to borrow funds for an amount of up to $170,000 to complete the purchase.

Before these funds can be borrowed, the FVRD must hold a vote to ask the electors if they are in favour of borrowing up to $170,000 to purchase the land and buildings.

For questions about the purchase contact Jennifer Kinneman, Chief Administrative Officer at 604-702-5056.

For questions about voting, contact Jaime Van Nes, Chief Election Officer at 604-702-5023.
