District of Hope Firefighters continue to fight a Kawkawa Lake-area fire this evening.

Multiple fire trucks, a police vehicle, a BC Hydro vehicle and an ambulance were on scene of a fire on Park Avenue and Lakeview Crescent as firefighters continue to put out a fire.

Fire Chief Tom DeSorcy, who was at the scene, said he does not know all the details of the fire as the fire department is still dealing with the fire. He noted that the fire was not suspicious and there were no injuries.

He said the call came in around 3:30 p.m. today.

A neighbour added that the fire started slow and just as the fire department arrived, the fire flared up.

He added that the fire flared up multiple times. When The Standard visited at around 6 p.m., fires flared up again from the roof.

"It's about the sixth time I've seen flames coming out of the roof, after they've put it out," said the neighbour. "Could be going for another couple of hours from the looks of it."

Homes around that neighbourhood have also lost power according to the BC Hydro outage map. It is unknown if this is related to the fire at this point.
