A flood watch was put into effect in Hope on Sunday afternoon, following a day of torrential rain in the Fraser Valley.
The District of Hope has released the following statement:
“High streamflow advisory has been upgraded to a Flood Watch in the Hope area for tributaries including the Coquihalla River and Silver-Hope Creek. The public is reminded to stay clear of the fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high-streamflow period and adhere to local road closures in place.
“District crews have been deployed dealing with local concerns and will continue to patrol overnight and the District of Hope and the River Forecast Centre will provide updates as conditions warrant.”
Residents of Hope can sign up for an app called Alertable on their smart phones and computers, and also watch the Fraser Valley Regional District website for emergency information.
The rain has also led to mudslides in the region.
