Former Hope councillor candidate and SD78 candidate on Elections BC disqualification list

Sue Turgeon and Marilyn Warren cannot run for office until after the 2026 General Local Elections

Elections BC just released their disqualification list and it looks like two local candidates — one for council and one for school trustee — made the list.

Former candidate Sue Turgeon — who ran for the District of Hope council — and former candidate Marilyn Warren — who ran to be on the school board for Fraser Cascade School District 78 — cannot seek office until after the 2026 General Local Elections. This decision is due to both Turgeon and Warren failing to file a disclosure statement or supplementary report within deadline (Jan. 31).

Both women did not win their respective elections. Turgeon, a Hope resident, ran against 13 other candidates and received 270 votes. Meanwhile, nine candidates ran for school board and Warren, a resident of Agassiz, received 522 votes.

According to the Financial Disclosure Act, candidates are required to disclose assets, liabilities and sources of incomes — which includes revenue or financial backing from third parties. This is done through disclosure statements which are then available for public inspection.

A total of 50 candidates in B.C. failed to provide disclosure statements and are banned from seeking office until after 2026.
