More than 200 cars are rolling into town this week for the sixth annual Canada Day Classic Car Show.
The event is open to all types of vehicles, and will feature everything from 1914 classics to 2011 stock cars.
"Every vehicle is unique. If someone wants to see diversity, they can come to one show and see it all," said event organizer Scott Medlock. "It's a nice day to drive to Hope and it's a good place to spend the day."
Brett Rees' 2009 Dodge Challenger will be featured in the show this year. The Kitsilano resident has wrapped his car in desert camouflage as a tribute to fallen Canadian soldiers and a fundraiser for WoundedWarriors.ca.
Rick Limb's race car will also be on display.
"It's kind of nice to see something unique that people don't get a chance to get up close to very often," said Medlock.
The annual event attracts cars and trucks from all over the Lower Mainland, and has hosted vehicles from as far away as Kelowna, Cache Creek and Washington state.
The car show is sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, Lordco, Kal Tire and Canyon Cable/Napa Auto Parts. The event runs from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. along Wallace Street, between Third and Fifth avenues. Registration is by donation, with all proceeds going to the local Story Time in the Park literacy program.
The first 200 vehicles will receive a collector dash plaque. An emergency roadside kit from Kal Tire will also be handed out to the crowd favourite.
The car show is taking place in conjunction with the new Strongman Competition in Memorial Park. The event will see competitors participate in six events including the truck pull, car lift, tire flip and log press.
At the Hope Visitor Centre, there will be live entertainment, kids activities, Canada Day cake, and information booths featuring local businesses and organizations.
Mayor Laurie French and Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl will kick off the July 1 event at 11 a.m. with Emily Bailey singing the national anthem.
There will also be a performance by Francis Melling, a chainsaw demonstration by Pete Ryan, and appearances by Smokey Bear and the Haig fire crew throughout the day. Children’s activities include a bouncy house, relay races, crafts and face painting.
Festivities run until 2 p.m. at 919 Water Ave.
