Paid-on-call firefighters in Hope will be paid in accordance with the B.C. minimum wage.

The decision was unanimous in council chambers on Dec. 13.

The Hope Volunteer Fire Department is staff by paid-on-call firefighters, who are compensated for their attendance at incidents, training and investigations.

The pay rate was previously $15 per hour, but will now change with the provincial minimum wage, which is currently $15.20 per hour. It will change any time the provincial minimum wage changes.

Call outs are paid at a one-hour minimum.
