A Hope resident is currently in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after crashing his vehicle into a hydro pole on Flood Hope Road.
On Tuesday evening (Jan. 17), approximately 1,042 BC Hydro customers of the Silver Creek and Ruby Creek neighbourhoods found themselves without power after a 24-year-old man hit the pole by the Flying J Travel Center.
Hope RCMP were immediately on scene and discovered an unlicensed driver, needing medical care. Police initiated an impaired investigation on scene.
“Impaired driving is still a real issue in our community,” said Staff Sergeant Dwayne Farlin in a press release. “In this case, the driver was fortunate not to have been seriously injured and he is also extremely lucky that the crash did not involve any other vehicles, or pedestrians, on the busy stretch of road.”
Witnesses say that the vehicle had been travelling eastbound at a “high rate of speed” and lost control, causing the road to be closed temporarily as the downed wires and vehicle were cleared.
The power was out from 6:15 p.m and only returned in some areas around 1 a.m. (Jan. 18).
