VIDEO: Shooting in Maple Ridge

Police say it was targeted

One person was wounded in what Ridge Meadows RCMP are calling a targeted shooting on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20.

Reported at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers arrived at a section of 123rd Ave. between 222nd and Hillside Streets to find two vehicles that had been involved in a collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS).

Police also received reports of a vehicle on fire in the 20800 block of 123rd Avenue, which is believed to be linked to the shooting. Extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP Investigative Support Team (IST) and Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) are investigating.

There is no further threat to public safety at this time, an RCMP statement said.

One witness told Black Press Media they heard what appeared to be rapid gunfire, “many shots.”

Investigators could be seen checking out two cars, a white sedan and black SUV.

Police still seeking witnesses, video surveillance or dash cam footage in the areas of 123 Avenue and 222 Street as well as in the 20800 block of 123 Avenue. Anyone with information for the police is asked to contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP directly at 604-463-6251.
