Alice Doreen Nash

March 19, 1932 – June 15, 2018
Doreen was born in Chilliwack to dairy farmers Charlie and Dora Armstrong, both from pioneering Chilliwack farm families (Armstrong and Parker).

She met Phil Nash of Laidlaw and they married in 1951, living in Vancouver and a short stint in Port McNeil. During this time, Doreen and Phil had three sons and two daughters. Their dream was to return to Phil’s family farm in Laidlaw, homesteaded by Henry Hunter in 1867.

In April 1965, after years of hard work clearing land and building barns and a home, that dream came true. Doreen and Phil worked side by side on their dairy farm until retiring. The next phase was building a new home adjacent to the farm, where they enjoyed their retirement.

Doreen was the “glue” that held the family together. She was a hard worker and a great mother and grandmother – she especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. Many people knew her from her prowess at knitting and her booth at local craft fairs. She collected weather data for Environment Canada for 35 years. She was always on the side of “the little guy” in this world. And she really enjoyed waving at the train crews as the CN and CP trains rolled by. In fact, CN officially named her private crossing as “Grandma’s Crossing” in her honour.

Doreen wished to live in her home as long as she could and she got her wish, living in her own home until springtime this year.

Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband, Phil, in 1992, and is survived by her loving family – children Charlie (Mary) Nash, Tom (Patty) Nash, Dorothy (Dave) Lear, Bill (Barb) Nash and Susan (Terry) Hackett, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Clifford (Rilla) and sisters- in-laws Lorraine (Ed), Terry, Pauline and Vi. Doreen will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer.
