June 16, 1928 - September 2, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Southern announce his passing September 2, 2020 in Chilliwack, BC.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 65 years, Betty, and children Wendy (Lou), Rick and Lois, grandchildren, Adam (Dana), Ashley (Curtis), Vanessa (James), Sadie, Hope, and five great granddaughters.
Frank was born on June 16, 1928 in Leask, Saskatchewan. He joined the workforce in his early teens and was always looking for the next adventure. Flin Flon, Manitoba in the mine, road building on the Trans-Canada Highway between Boston Bar and Spuzzum, apprenticing as a mechanic/welder at M.W. Swalwell International Garage in Justice, Manitoba, where he met and married Betty Foster in 1955. He was a foreman for Elton Municipality in Manitoba, worked in the logging industry in Boston Bar, heavy duty mechanic for Tech Corporation in Dawson City, Yukon, and then started his own welding and repair business in the Fraser Canyon. He was a very industrious and hardworking man who always had a smile on his face.
Frank enjoyed drawing and wood carving, playing guitar and accordion, and watching western movies. After he retired, Frank and Betty enjoyed golfing, travelling in their RV, and spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Frank's greatest joy was his family. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and "pa" to his great granddaughters. He was a strong, quiet, gentle man who always made everyone around him smile and laugh. Frank was so loved by us all and we were so lucky to have him for 92 years. He had a very full life of love and family.
