In loving memory ~

On Thursday, October 19th, 2023, John Thomas Firkins (Jack), loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 94.

Jack was born in 1928 in Spences Bridge to John and Jennie Firkins. Jack had 3 sisters, Charlotte (1922) Dorothy (1924) and Hazel (1934).

Jack started for the railroad in 1949 and retired in 1985 as yard master for Kamloops CNR. He was also a long-time member of the Moose. He served as Governor and Secretary of the Kamloops Moose Lodge and then as Provincial President and long-term Provincial Secretary for the Loyal Order of Moose for British Columbia. He attained the highest level of achievement Pilgrim within the Order. His passion and commitment were felt by many over the years.

Jack and Velma (First wife) raised their 3 children, John Thomas Firkins Jr, Vincent Richard Firkins, and Jennifer Anne Sallows (Firkins) in Kamloops BC. Jack then moved back down to his old stomping grounds of Boston Bar later in his retirement years and he met and married Dolores Firkins.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother Jennie, and his father John. Jack's longevity resulted in him having many losses, his first wife Velma Firkins, and his children, John, Vincent, Jennifer, and stepson Grant. Lastly Jack had to say goodbye to the love of his life, Dolores Firkins (Florence) August 2022.

Jack is survived by his stepson, Evan Florence, grandchildren (Firkins and Florence) and great-grandchildren.

A formal service will be held for Jack on November 18, 2023, at the Anderson Creek Longhouse in Boston Bar at 1:30 p.m. An internment will be held prior at Florence Family Plot at 12:00 p.m. for family and close friends.
