In Loving Memory ~
Our Mom/Grandmother/Nana Mary, was born in Kamloops, BC on September 9, 1931, to Daniel and Alpha McGinn.
She was predeceased by her father & mother, and her husband of fifty years, Alex MacQueen (d. 2004). Mary's siblings, Daniel & John McGinn, also predeceased her.
Mary is survived by her sister DJ "Donna Jean" Jorgensen; her two children Gail (Don) Harrison & Wade MacQueen; 5 grandchildren Tamara (Jonathan), Jaime (Brandon), Joel (Sara), Shoshanna, & Craig (Lisa); as well, she was blessed with 12 amazing great-grandchildren Lauren, Tayleur, Harrison, Hudson, Brodie, Wyatt, Emerson, Knox, Dawson, Linden, Adalynn & Vienna.
So many things that Mom thrived doing: she was an amazing athlete - a pitcher who led our ball team to many tournaments; a director with the Regional District; a First Aid person in the mighty Fraser Canyon when ambulances were non-existent; a solid businesswoman; devoted to the Museum and Church Historical Society; Yale Stagecoach Days; and so much more! No matter what, our parents were always there for families and children in Yale!
Mary left this world a better place. She and Dad taught us many values, including our sense of community and responsibility as modelled by our parents and living in a small community. Her journey was a tough one, when she lost Dad (Alex), Mom wanted to stay in Yale but by October she knew she would find the winter very lonely.
She picked up and moved to Vernon, a community that she and Dad often talked about. Mom settled into a great location in Vernon and very quickly became involved in the strata and Vernon community. She also loved to travel in her little motorhome and visit family and friends.
As her life progressed, Mom developed Vascular Dementia, and she moved to Kelowna to a wonderful retirement living location in Glenmore (Kelowna) where she and her little pug, Abby, quickly became acquainted. This home's bus shuttle has mom and Abby on the back of their bus to this day! Mom lived and loved these days and the ability to do long walks with her four-legged buddy.
Gradually it became evident that she needed more help and in Feb 2013, Mom and Abby relocated to a care home, Village at Mill Creek. This, as you can imagine, was a very tough adjustment for Mom, but having Abby at her side helped make it better.
Mom was loved and well cared for at the Village, this was very evident in her last days with us. It was a very hard journey, but the love and care shown by her caregivers were heartwarming. In the early hours of June 7, 2022, Mom, with family at her side, joined Dad and left this world in peace.
Mary has made her mark in this world, and we will honour her passing with fond memories with a gathering in Yale at the "Ward Teahouse" (64905 Albert Street, Yale, BC) on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 2-4 pm.
We would love to have friends and family join us to celebrate and share precious memories, photos, and stories!
