It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of both our parents in March 2024.
Nella (Kelly) Marie Calihou ~
August 8, 1945 - March 30th, 2024
George Raymond McBain ~
January 26, 1937 - March 12th, 2024
After a life lived together, Mom and Dad passed within days of each other. Leaving their marks in Burnaby, Barnett, Vancouver, and Galiano Island. They retired to Hope BC where they loved the serenity of their little valley teeming with wildlife, trees galore, and early sunsets.
They spent years as YBC and softball coaches and volunteers, Nella was an active weaver and Guild member, and George was a lifetime Fish and Game Club member. They spent summers camping, enjoying the outdoors, lawn bowling, and visiting friends and family in later years.
Our Mother Nella (Kelly) Marie Calihou, born August 8, 1945, was the daughter of Emcie Calihou and is a direct descendent of Michel First Nation of Treaty 6. She passed peacefully on March 30th at Fraser Hope Lodge after a 5-month battle due to a traumatic brain injury. All 3 of her daughters spent the final 6 weeks at her bedside daily, hearing stories and strengthening bonds.
Our Father George Raymond McBain, born January 26, 1937, was the son of Henry Goodfellow McBain of Aberdeen, Scotland and Minnie Holms of Stavanger, Norway. He passed on March 12th from complications of an unexpected heart attack. He spent his final months sitting with his wife of nearly 60 years. He was surrounded on his final day by his daughters and extended family members.
George and Nella are survived by their daughters Gina Adkins (nee: Heidrich) (Dewayne), Sheryl Thompson (Andrew), Brenda Spiers-Dahn (Kris), Grandchildren Michael Heidrich (Robyn), Tyler Heidrich (Cindi), Stevie Thompson, Patrick Phelan, Carole Lagimodiere, Jamie Whitford, Tamara Whitford, Kathy Whitford, Dallas Whitford, Brianna Rockendal-Williams, and great-grandchild Theodore Heidrich. Nella's brothers Ken Calihou (Joan) and Paul Calihou (Honey), and their nieces and nephews Shelley, Wendy, Julie, Victoria, Tony, Kim, Bradley, Larry, Lisa, David, Allen, Michael, Patrick.
They are predeceased by George's brother Robert McBain (Anne) and Nella's sister Celia Bouchie (nee: Holly) (Bill).
At their request, no public service will be held.
