The small community in Hope suffered a blow this week with the passing of Pat Buck, 76, of Riverview Drive in Hope, Thursday, December 28.

Born in 1947, she was raised and went to school in North Vancouver where she eventually married and gave birth to her two daughters, Brenda and Lynn.

After experiencing some hardships in her marriage and material life, Pat went back to school where she acquired her bookkeeping credentials and launched her professional career supporting her family as a single mom until her retirement.

In 2011, Pat, her daughter, Lynn, and son-in-law, Bart moved into Pat's newly acquired property on Riverview Drive in Hope. After some time, her daughter left Hope for education and occupational reasons, leaving Pat and Bart with the two new family dogs, Sam and Harley.

Since that time, Pat proved herself to be a good friend and neighbour. Her medical condition, while deteriorating, still allowed her some mobility and it is in the years that followed that Pat came into herself. She was happy, well-adjusted and spent a good deal of time doing her craftwork.

Bart took care of her on a daily basis while Lynn and Brenda continued to support her emotionally, both from a distance and when they would visit her.

Pat made friends with a good number of people, and when she could, tried to fulfill her political responsibilities by attending community meetings, town hall meetings and such. Clearly, she was her happiest during this period.

Her passing is met with a good deal of sympathy by all of our community members who knew her. She was a good friend, a good neighbour and a good person who will surely be sorely missed in the days to come.

She is survived by her two daughters and her grandson, Chris.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no ceremony for Pat.

God bless you Pat!
