December 15, 2023

Mayla Richard (Rick) Brown, 83, passed away December 15, 2023 at the Fraser Canyon Hospital in Hope, BC. Born in Southampton, England in 1940 , he came to Canada in 1946 and grew up in Alberta and McBride, B.C. He also lived in Edmonton for many years.

He served in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. In the late 50's, he was chosen to be Queen Elizabeth's bodyguard while she was visiting Winnipeg. She spoke with him, asked where he came from and they had a nice conversation.

For over 20 years, Rick was a long-haul trucker, travelling from the Arctic to Mexico. He then got a job on the railroad and worked another 20 years for CNR as a track foreman, retiring in 2011 in Hope.

Rick met Judy in 1957. They went different ways a few years later, then met and rekindled their love in 1979. They just celebrated 40 years of marriage.

Rick loved to joke and tease family and friends, he always enjoyed a good laugh. He will be sorely missed by wife Judy, son Bradley, granddaughter Tenley, stepsons Daniel, Nicholas and Kenneth Patterson, and grandson Dylan, sister Karen Olsen, brother Keith, his nieces, cousins and many friends.

Thanks to Dr. Darby and the caring, comforting staff and volunteers at the Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Rick, consider a donation to the Fraser Canyon Hospice Society 1275 7th Ave., Hope, B.C.

As requested, there is no funeral service, there will be a family gathering in Alberta next spring.
