Feb. 28, 1914 - Feb. 8, 2010
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in Fraser Canyon Hospital on February 8th, three weeks before her 96th birthday, after a lifetime devoted to her family. Born Ruth Maxene Davis in Iowa, Ruth moved to Saskatchewan as an infant, growing up in and around Wordsworth where she met and married Earl Sellars in 1932. They worked the family farm and homesteaded during the Depression, moving with their two children, Cora and Irwin, to Forest Grove B.C. in 1950. Ruth was always very involved with her community, and was a long time member of the Forest Grove Women's Institute as well as being made lifetime member of both the Forest Grove Curling Club and the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary Branch 261. In 1982, Ruth and Earl moved to Boston Bar to be closer to their daughter, Cora. As in Forest Grove, they became very active members of their community. During her time in Boston Bar, Ruth participated in many activities. Her proudest achievements involved the Chilliwack Fair where she won many ribbons and the overall trophy in Home Arts several times. They lived in Boston Bar until 2001 when Earl passed away after 68 years of marriage. Ruth moved to Hope that year and spent a very happy 9 years at Park Street Manor where her positive attitude and willingness to stay active and involved earned her many friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Park Street Manor for the love and kindness they showed to Ruth over these years; it was truly the best place she could be. The family would also like to thank Dr. J. Greggain and the nursing staff at Fraser Canyon Hospital for their kindness and care in Mom's last days.
Our mom will be loved forever by her family: daughter Cora Dunlop and son Irwin (Linda) Sellars; grandchildren Corinne (Pekka) Vaatainen, Earl (Laurie) Dunlop, Jeremy, Stephanie (Glen), and Goard Sellars; her great grandson, Tuomas Surakka; her brother, Ross (Betty) Davis, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Galbraith, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A tea in Ruth's honour was held at Park St. Manor. In lieu of flowers, if desired, a contribution can be made in Ruth's name to the Mount Hope Senior Citizens' Housing Society, care of Park St. Manor, PO box 881, Hope, BC V0X 1L0.
