Two Chilliwack golf courses are among 43 across B.C. hosting the 18th annual PGA of B.C. Golfathon for ALS.
The Chilliwack Golf Club is the venue June 8. Five golfers will raise funds and awareness for the ALS Society of B.C., which provides support services to ALS patients and their families, friends, and caregivers. Ryan Tofani, Connor O’Dell, Zach Olson, Kaleb Fisher and Kathy Stecyk will golf from sunrise to sunset, trying to finish as many holes as possible.
I’m very proud of our hard-working PGA Of BC Golf Professionals who are donating their time for a very worthwhile cause,” said Chilliwack Golf Club manager Bryan Ewart. “This is not an easy feat to accomplish and I hope the membership of Chilliwack Golf Club and the Chilliwack community support their fundraising efforts.”
“The PGA of BC GolfAthon is obviously a fantastic cause and has only continued to grow since I came on board here at the Chilliwack Golf Club,” Tofani added.
On June 26 it’ll be Kevin Stinson and Chilliwack’s Cheam Mountain Golf Course taking center stage.
“Playing a bunch of holes for charity to raise some money is a great way to give back to an extremely worthy cause,” Stinson said. “Our course is quick and easy to play so I am hoping to get well over 100 holes completed.
“Charitable giving and donating some time is a big part of what we (PGA of BC)are about as an organization.”
The event is presented by Pacific Blue Cross.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects a person’s motor neurons that carry messages to the muscles resulting in weakness and wasting in arms, legs, mouth, throat and elsewhere. Typically, the person is immobilized within two to five years of the initial diagnosis, and there is no known cause or cure.
The ALS Society of British Columbia (ALS BC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Andrew Eisen, with a mission to cure ALS through funding research, while advocating for and supporting people living with ALS.
