The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball program has signed with the most prolific offensive local products in recent memory.

The club announced the inking of 2023 Abbotsford Senior Secondary School grad Dilveer Randhawa on Thursday (March 14).

He was a part of the Panthers 2023 Eastern Valley Athletic Association 4A banner win and helped the team finish eighth in the province. Randhawa also was a key part of the Panthers win at the Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament in 2022.

He spent the last year with the Ontario-based London Basketball Academy and learned under that development program following graduation.

Randhawa will join former Panthers teammate Hayden Sansalone on the Cascades.

The 6-6 shooting guard recorded a number of impressive offensive showings in high school, scoring over 50 and 40 points several times.

“On the offensive end of the floor he’s been spectacular over the last couple of years. He was a go-to guy for Abbotsford Senior, and really shoots the ball at a high-level,” stated UFV head coach Joe Enevoldson. “He’s another local guy who sees what we are trying to build towards, and he’s bought into what we are trying to be. I feel like that’s a great combination, and we are expecting some big things from him right from the get-go.”

Enevoldson said that he believes Randhawa is a Canada West offensive player already and should be able to step in next season. He added that it’s important for the Cascades to recruit and develop local talent.

“I chose UFV out of all my options because I want the represent the city of Abbotsford,” Randhawa stated. “I want to inspire the youth and create a culture in this city for young kids with basketball dreams and show them that you can achieve whatever you want — wherever you want but you yourself have to be the change. I love to play in front of all my family and friends and want make this program as good as I know it can be.”

Randhawa stated that he wants the Cascades men’s basketball program to be regarded as one of the top in the country.

“I want to become the best Cascade the program has ever seen, and the best overall teammate anyone at the program has seen too,” he said. “Another goal of mine is to be the best player in Canada in a few years and make the UFV Cascades a marquee program every up-and-coming player desires to be at.”

The men’s team is coming off an 8-12 regular season that saw them upset the Regina Cougars in the play-in round before losing to the Winnipeg Wesmen in the quarterfinals.
