UFV’s Maddy Gobeil and Deanna Tuchscherer named Canada West all-stars

A pair of University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball players have been named Canada West all-stars.

Fourth-year guard Maddy Gobeil was named a CW first team all-star, while third year forward Deanna Tuchscherer earned third team honours.

Gobeil had an outstanding season, finishing second in CW in points per game (17.7) and steals (3.3), sixth in field goal percentage (.482), 11th in assists (3.3), 14th in three-point percentage (.329) and 25th in rebounds (5.8).

The Kamloops product scored a season-high 31 points in a win against the Victoria Vikes on Nov. 11. She also collected 12 rebounds in a win against the UBCO Heat on Nov. 18 and seven steals in a win against the UNBC Timberwolves on Jan. 6.

She was also named a first team all-star last season.

Tuchscherer averaged 12.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Cascades and also finished 13th in the conference in field percentage at .434.

She scored a season-high 22 points in a win over the Regina Cougars on Nov. 25 and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over the TWU Spartans on Feb. 10.

The Chilliwack product was previously a first team all-star in 2021-22 and was named the CW rookie of the year in 2019-20.

Robert Bateman grad Jayden Gill of the Spartans was also recognized as a second team all-star.

Gill was fourth in the conference in scoring with 17.3 points per game and was 34th in field goal percentage at .360. She collected 30 points in a win over the Brandon Bobcats on Nov. 24 and also dished out eight assists in a win over Regina on Nov. 11.

She was also named a second team all-star last season.

The Cascades open the championships on Thursday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m., while the Spartans tip-off tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m.
