“I’m just very excited to (be working here) in the community again, and serving our local customers,” Martin said. “Hope is a great place. Obviously every place has different situations and opportunities. But for me this is home. And I’ll do my best to meet our customers’ expectations.”

Martin, who has been working as Buy-Low’s manager for over a month now, said he’s looking forward to helping to maintain the store’s relationship with the community. He is said he is also looking for news ways for Buy-Low to become more involved in the community.

Originally from Manila, Philippines, Martin first moved to Hope 10 years ago and was the manager for the Hope McDonald’s before moving to Surrey a few years later. He returned to Hope in 2019 and, up until recently, was working as the manager of the Canadian Superstore.

Since moving to Hope, Martin said he has been working on developing his connections and becoming an active member of the community. He is married and has two children, a seven-year-old who goes to Coquihalla Elementary School and a younger child who goes to Swetexel Daycare and Preschool.

In addition to his years of managerial experience in the food and grocery industry, Martin has a Bachelors in Advertising from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He is currently enrolled at the University of the Fraser Valley and plans to eventually further his studies in advertising and public relations.

“I just want to emphasize that we (Buy-Low) have a really solid, friendly, team here,” Martin said. “Before I even got on board, the team was doing an amazing job.

“I want to make sure that the community is aware of that. And at the top of my mind is making sure our customers and employees are taken care of. Because we’re all about people both internally and externally.”
